Advice on choosing Tiaras and Jewellery

Like wedding dresses, you should try different shapes and styles to see what suits your face shape and hair tone. You might be surprised what looks good on you!

Tiaras are symbolic of grandeur and aristocracy and are popular with brides to transform them into modern day princesses, the fairytale beauty all little girls aspire to be. Worn with or without a veil everyone knows the bride in a room by the sparkle and beauty of a tiara. Most tiaras suit all hairstyles but bear in mind if you have shorter hair, that heavier styles require more pinning in place.

Ornamental combs provide a less formal alternative to a tiara or to wedding hats, but can be equally stunning and eye-catching. A coronet beautifully encircles a high pinned hairstyle and gives a very regal appearance. Strategically placed hair pins provide a stunning and contemporary effect. For the bolder bride an incredibly striking look is achieved with a retro style V-tiara. Pinned either side of the head, the V-tiara hangs much like a necklace across your forehead, drawing attention to the face.

When looking for a tiara it is important to consider the shape of your face.

Round or Small Face
– choosing a tiara that forms a high central peak will elongate the face
Oval or Long Face – conversely avoid tiaras with peaks and height, trying a flatter headband style
Heart Shaped Face – look at tiaras with multiple peaks of varying heights around the band

When choosing a tiara or jewellery consider the style, colour and detailing of your gown. Bespoke design enables you to do this perfectly, flowing a traditional or contemporary look through to the chosen accessories while echoing beading or pattern detailing. With bridal gowns, cream crystal pearls beautifully compliment ivory and off white, while freshwater pearls, silver and crystal look stunning with white. Pieces made of crystal alone suit any colour gown. Subtle tones of your chosen colours for flowers and attendants can be introduced in bridal pieces should you wish and the perfect colour combinations can be created for your bridesmaids.

In a similar way to tiaras, jewellery should accent your gown and not dominate it. An elaborate dress needs little or simple jewellery, conversely a simple dress can be transformed with stunning accessories.

When choosing a necklace for a gown or dress, follow the curve of the neckline. Rounded or scooped necked garments look good with a simple single strand necklace or an entwined multi-stranded piece. Chokers are another incredibly versatile option. V-necklines look best with a drop pendant style piece and backless or low backed dresses look stunning with necklaces with drop jewels hanging down the back. Strapless dresses lend themselves to almost any necklace style.

If you are bride wearing an elaborate tiara or you have a high necked dress, avoid necklaces. In this instance you can opt for a more detailed bracelet and earrings.
